Colbert had a funny piece about Limey Squirrel Eaters yesterday, and listening to the BBC this evening, I heard about the Meeee-thane on Mars that's been discovered by scientists. This reminded me of the Al-You-min-eye-um I used to hear about, that British Aerospace uses to build their aircraft. And the "holes in wall" (instead of ATMs) used to withdraw money from banks.
How did American colloquialisms stray so far away from our British origins?
