Kadhafi Captured?

MSNBC reports that Moamer Kadhafi was captured as his hometown of Sirte (link here).  If it is true, it is interesting that the capture comes just days after Hillary Clinton visited there.  Maybe the price of ammunition will stop sky rocketing, with fewer untrained troops pouring thousands of rounds out of their weapons?

We'll see...

If President McCain were in office, I am sure he'd see this as an opportunity to launch strikes against Iran, and open up a third front.  At least we don't have that to worry about...  in 2011 or 2012...   =\

  1. Update: not only did they capture him, they killed him...vigilante style. In fact, some reports are saying his bodyguards killed him.

  2. yeah, I posted that at 5am Arizona time... a few hours later BBC was reporting he was dead. Kadhafi. Qaddafi, Gaddafi, Gadhafi, Muammar Muhammad Abu Minyar al-Gaddafi, مُعَمَّر القَذَّافِي‎ Muʿammar al-Qaḏḏāfī, he's a corpse now. Very bad guy, egomaniac, eccentric dictator, no more.

  3. ...and now a murder victim. Not that I feel bad for the guy, but still: I refuse to celebrate the killing (judicial or extrajudicial) of anyone.

And there's a part of me that thinks this "revolution" will just result in another Gadhafi. Even Gadhafi was a revolutionary once...

  4. Yeah, I share your sense of foreboding. Tunisia, Egypt, Yemen, Bahrain... they've not seen real reform or any democratically elected anything, Spring or no Spring.

Any life taken has a degree of sadness to it - human, bear, dog, cat, etc. I have no empathy for mosquitoes, ants, cock roaches (insects in general) or fish (nor did Ghandi, in his early years, as I am reading). Muammar had killed hundreds or thousands of his people and was despicable, yes indeed, for sure, but make him rot in a cell the rest of his life, eating bread and water and being treated slightly better than he treated his political prisoners. Mob mentality, meeting violence with violence, brings the mob down to the despicable dictator's level.
