Goodbye Peanut Butter

Now that I have discovered Almond Butter at Trader Joe's - and it is gluten free, vegetable oil free, vegan friendly - I will likely never eat Peanut Butter again. The stuff is heavenly delicious. I never knew such a food stuff existed.
Almond butter on organic celery
Almond butter as an ice cream topping
Almond butter on crackers ir "Almond Butter & Jelly" (if you want the carbs from the crackers or bread)
Dried Apricots dipped in almond butter
72% Cocoa Squares with almond butter spread on them

...and each time, licking off the butter knife of it's creamy goodness. MMMMMM.

This is one of the '4 food groups' now, chez nous. I don't think the jar will last longer than a week before it is empty and in the recycling bin.

The solid pound of dark chocolate lasts just about 2 weeks.

  1. There was a campaign here to point out that nutella (which is mostly hazelnut butter) is better than the run-of-the-mill peanut butter.

Is almond butter high in n-6 pufas?

  3. Peanut butter and chocolate are so good together that almond butter and chocolate are probably a natural combination as well!

  4. Ron: "Is almond butter high in n-6 pufas? " ...it is not as high as say Walnuts, but it is pretty good. The British Journal of Nutrition (table 1 page 4) shows almonds to be slightly below brazil nuts.

  5. n-6 pufas are *bad* for you, unless, of course, inflammation and heart disease are your goals, in which case, drop the almonds and guzzle the industrial seed oil.

I don't understand the relevance of the studies you posted to my question.

Nuts in whole form as a small snack are not bad as a whole. I think that consuming jar fulls will be a issue. Also, on a side note, you can make your own - peanut butter, almond butter, or whatever nut butter by just food processing the nut until a butter consistency. Which I have done accidentally when creating almond "flour" :) Still yummy - but wasn't on the plan.

  7. That's a good article, even before you get to the gems such as "Just make sure you treat your nuts as delicious snacks", and, "Don’t burn your nuts".

  8. I did like the "Don't burn your nuts" and "nuts aren’t just “bags of linoleic acid” " comments. Thanks Ame!

  9. Just got some paste from a local place that's made from peppers, walnuts, olive oil, garlic, tomatoes and some other spices. Quite nice, and a good kick.
