Lemmings, Get Yer Guns!

I am sick and tired of hearing the hysterical, baseless, maniacal, misguided, insidious fear mongering about how "Obama is going to take our guns!" It's utter bull sh*t, designed to "excite the base". Candidate Obama had no plans to take people's guns. President Obama, and his administration have no plans to take people's guns or to mark their ammunition with a federal law.

I've owned fire arms for more than 30 years, having been certified as a marksman, pro-marksman, and finally as a sharp shooter by the NRA back in 1978 back at Boy Scout camp - I spent the entire week of camp at the shooting range. I have no fear that the firearms I and my relatives and friends own will be "taken" by the Feds, but then again I have an IQ over 130. I do NOT understand how millions of Americans can be so gullible as to fall for the hysteria that the NRA and right wing-nut websites and AM radio have whipped up.

I was in the Glendale AZ Cabela's 2 weeks ago, and I was astounded to see the rows and rows of shelves nearly empty of every type of ammunition, and the 100 foot long gun counter crowded with citizens desperate to buy a weapon. I overheard 3 different conversations of misinformed men telling their wives, buddies, or son how "Obama wants to laser etch all ammo, we won't be able to afford it!" or "Obama wants to make it illegal to own a gun" or "Washington ain't gonna get my gun!". As I was out-numbered about 400 to 1, I held my tongue.

If anyone has FACTUAL evidence that PROVES the ATF, the Obama Administration, Congress, or anyone else is planning in causing all ammunition to be laser etched, or taking away legally purchased fire arms, or any of the other hyped hysteria about fire arms in America, PLEASE, put a link to a non-partisan, factual website here in the comments section so I can stand corrected.

  1. I'm a liberal and a gun-owner. I haven't yet received the memo from Barack about how I'm supposed to turn in my gun. Now where'd those black helicopters get to??

  2. The helicopters are transporting organs from the mandatory harvesting prog..... oh... I've said too much already!

  3. And let's not forget the forced labor on our all-organic fetus farms...where stem cells suck the life out of Baby Jesus(TM) to irrigate and nurture soon-to-be-aborted babies whose martyred flesh will be used to feed the fang-dripping appetites of Nancy Pelosi and her effete latte-sipping debutante minions.

  4. Hi Joe,

I'd like to respectfully disagree. I'm not a gun owner, and have no immediate attention to become one. However, his appointment of Eric Holder is ample evidence of his intentions towards gun control. The administration will undertake a process that will be slow and methodical, quiet and probably effective. Call me conspiratorial, but Obama is taking away freedoms just like Bush did. He just happens to be doing it in different ways.

  5. He should be judged by his actions, not his intentions. That goes for both fans and critics. I don't think Holder's stance on gun control had anything to do with his appointment. Not that I think it was a good appointment. It wasn't, but we'll see.

Anyone comes calling to take away my legally owned handgun, I'll let you know. Don't hold your breath.

  6. Respectful discourse is always welcomed. Holder's appointment sends me the following signals
    - prosecutorial misconduct (as in the Bush appointees who grossly mishandled the Ted Stevens case) will not be tolerated
    - political affiliations and politically based prosecutions will not be used as grounds for hiring or firing in the Justice Department (as they were repeatedly in Ashcroft's and Gonzalez's DOJs)
    - continuances of bogus justifications for unlimited executive powers, from the Office of Legal Council, the DOJ, or anywhere else in the Executive branch, will no longer be status quo (from what can be seen so far, with the exception of the appeal to continue to suspend Habeus Corpus for Baghram AFB prisoners in Afghanistan... which I Do Not understand.. but at least the black hole of Gitmo will be closed).

If there is some hard, factual, documented evidence that Holder is now, or will be implementing serious curtailments to gun rights Ferdie, please provide me a link. The only thing I have seen is conjecture and histrionics based upon past opinions - right wing nuts grasping for straws from the past without ANYTHING substantial to base their claims upon, going forward.

The Democrats (even dopey old milk toast Harry Reid) understand that if they start taking away people's firearms, that will be a massive rallying cry for their opposition, larger even that taking away social security would be for AARP members!

I eagerly await some links to factual news sources detailing Holder & Obama's anti-2nd amendment plans.

  7. According to this link...
    http://www.talkleft.com/story/2008/11/18/202950/27

...which references Nexis (sorry I don't have time to fact check) Holder stated the following in 2000:

" I want to add my voice to those who are calling on Congress to finally -- to finally -- pass these very common-sense gun measures.

First, to require child safety locks for all handguns that are sold. Second, to ban violent juveniles from ever having the ability to own guns.

Third, to pass the president's handgun licensing proposal, which requires safety certification for all handgun purchasers.

Fourth, to support research in smart-gun technology, which can limit a gun's use to its authorized owner.

And finally, to close the gun show loop hole by requiring a background check for all gun purchases at gun shows.

Every day that goes by, about 12, 13 more children in this country die from gun violence. We need these common-sense measures and we need them now. "

I can see how the wingnuts would consider this extremist, but they also think you should be able to buy a Minigun at WalMart with no background check and mount it in the bed of your jacked-up over-compensating-for-something-hmmm-I-wonder-what truck.

  8. wow, 2000, 9 years ago... when he did not have the vaguest clue or hope of being the AG. ALL of the things listed, as a gun owner myself, I see as GOOD things.

My Godfather, Uncle Joe in suburban Chicago as a nut case, Army-Surplus-Store-Owner-From-Pulp-Fiction neighbor, who emails him right wing extremist diatribes frequently. Forwarded me an email.. which is pretty hilarious... from a Republican rant, where the guy says (among other things)
"Examples: I think requiring a safety course isn't a bad idea at all, in fact I think I mentioned that right after I shot my kitchen. And making it illegal for a licensed gun owner to fail to record a gun loss or theft within 72 hours is a good idea, because fuck man?! Wouldn't any responsible gun owner fall all over themselves to report it immediately? To me it would be like stepping over a dead body for three days. "

I got a kick out it!
