Gato Negro Delicioso

2 weeks ago while shopping at Sprouts in Goodyear, I found a big display of Gato Negro wines. Malbec, Carménère, Cabernet, and 'some whites'. They were going "3 for $10", and were all screw tops. Normally, I don't go for 'catchy names' (like Menage a Trois, Fat Bastard, Red Bicycle, etc) and I try to avoid such brands, but I HAD brought my canvas 6-bottle carrier, and only had 2 stalks of celery in it at this time, so I picked up a Chilean Malbec and a Carménère and hoped for the best.

Young 2009 vintages from San Pedro, imported by Shaw Ross, these were both very dark reds, rich in flavor but not over-powering. I enjoyed each of these screw topped bottles in series over the course of a week, and for $3.33 a bottle, it's hard to beat delicious tannins. Far superior to any of the nasty Australian paint thinner Yellow Tail, Little Penguin, and Alice Whites I've endured in the past, and about 1/2 the price as well. Pick up a bottle (or two) before it gets popular and expensive.
